Soapstone / Arriving soon
Soapstone
A dense, soft-touch natural stone in charcoal and grey-green tones that deepens with age.
Soapstone is coming to the Portland gallery. Ask to reserve a slab from the first shipment, or have us send photos of the actual slabs as soon as they arrive.
Choosing Soapstone
A stone that
wears in, not out.
Soapstone has a velvety feel and a matte, honed look. Many owners apply mineral oil to darken it to a deep charcoal, and it develops a natural patina over time.
It is dense and does not absorb liquids the way porous stones can, and it is not etched by lemon juice or vinegar. It is softer than granite or quartzite, so it can scratch, but light marks can usually be sanded or oiled out. That makes it a favorite for farmhouse sinks, baking areas and kitchens that are meant to be used.
Bring a cabinet door or hardware sample to the gallery to see how soapstone sits beside your finishes.
